The Vegas Golden Knights have claimed a pair of prospects today in what was a busy time across the league.
They claimed former OHL forward Cole Schwindt from the Calgary Flames. But in addition to that, they claimed former QMJHL forward Raphael Lavoie from the Edmonton Oilers.
Lavoie was selected 38th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2019 NHL draft. This makes him the third QMJHL player selected that year after Samuel Poulin (Penguins, 21st overall) and Jakob Pelletier (Flames, 26th overall).
The Halifax Mooseheads selected Lavoie 29th overall in the 2016 QMJHL draft. The Chambly native spent three seasons and a half with the team before being dealt to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. In total, Lavoie scored 106 goals and 227 points in 217 regular season games in the QMJHL, adding another 24 goals and 39 points in 38 postseason games.
After finishing in the QMJHL, Lavoie spent some time playing overseas in Sweden before joining the Bakersfield Condors, the team he’s been playing with most of the time since the 2020-21 season.
Lavoie has played a total of seven NHL regular season games but failed to register a point. He has not appeared in a postseason game in the NHL up to now in his career.
With the addition of Lavoie, the Golden Knights add a 24-year-old, 6-foot-4 prospect to their reinforce what is considered to be a weak prospect pool. He is known for his quick release and for using his big frame and strength when protecting the puck.
