With his goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, Arshdeep Bains became the fifth player born in Surrey, B.C., to score a goal for the Vancouver Canucks. The moment was special as not only did Bains score with his parents in the stands, but his goal ended up serving as the game-winner. In honour of Bains’ goal, here is a look back at the other Surrey-born players to score a goal for the Canucks.

Bill Muckalt
The current franchise leader for both goals and points by a Surrey-born player is right winger Bill Muckalt. Drafted by Vancouver in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Draft, Muckalt played 106 games for the Canucks between 1989-00, scoring 20 goals and recording 48 points. After his playing days, Muckalt jumped behind the bench and has been coaching since 2006. Currently the Head Coach of Lindenwood University, his resume includes coaching many NHLers, including Quinn Hughes, when Vancouver’s captain was at the University of Michigan.

Brad Lukowich
A two-time Stanley Cup winner, Brad Lukowich’s time with the Canucks was short but memorable. He was the second player acquired by Vancouver in the Christian Ehrhoff trade and played 13 games with the organization. As for Lukowich’s only goal with the Canucks, that came on January 25, 2010, when Daniel Sedin dropped a beautiful between-the-legs pass that he buried for the eventual game-winner versus the Buffalo Sabres.
Noah Juulsen
The other current active player born in Surrey to score a goal for Vancouver is defenceman Noah Juulsen. His only goal so far came last season against the Winnipeg Jets, as he crashed the net and potted home a rebound for his first goal since 2018. Known mostly for his big hits, Juulsen should have some opportunities to add to his total this season.
Honourable Mention: Mike Brown
While Mike Brown never scored for the Canucks, he did play 16 games for the organization from 2000-02. Acquired from the Florida Panthers as part of the Pavel Bure trade, Brown had 77 penalty minutes during his time in Vancouver. Mostly known for his time in the minors, Brown retired with 100 points and over 1,100 penalty minutes during his 309 AHL games.
