Czechia made history at the women’s World Championships, Dawson Mercer became a red carpet reporter, and Emerson Etem poorly (on purpose) recreated an iconic goal. Here are some of the best moments from the past week in hockey.
Czechia Makes History At The Women’s World Championships
One of the coolest hockey stories this summer came at the women’s World Championships, with Czechia winning the bronze medal for the first time in team history over Switzerland on Sunday.
Czechia’s run would see them finish on top of Group B play with a 4-0-0 mark before upsetting Finland in the quarterfinals. They’d falsignificantthe Americans in the semifinal, but taking home the bronze is a major step for the program and continued progress as a whole for the women’s game.
Dawson Mercer: Red Carpet Interviewer
The MTV Video Music Awards were in Newark this past week, with some of the biggest names in music and entertainment making it onto the red carpet. Kane Brown and Chole Bailey stopped on the carpet to be interviewed by Devils center Dawson Mercer.
Yup, you read that correctly.
The team’s 2020 first-round pick looked good chatting with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and showed that he may have a future in the media world.
Emerson Etem’s Biggest Goal Is Poorly Recreated (On Purpose)
One of the biggest moments from the 2015 Staley Cup playoffs was when Anaheim Ducks forward Emerson Etem went coast to coast against the Winnipeg Jets during the 2015 playoffs to create one of the most memorable goals in franchise week.
This past week, the play got the re-creation treatment, with more than a few liberties taken in the reenactment.
Full marks to Emerson for being able to duck a garbage can and multiple sprawling players as he showed us how he went through the Jets defenders again.
