It’s draft day, baby.
As things situate right now, the Leafs are scheduled to make just three selections over the course of the next two days. Most notably, they have Boston’s first rounder (28th) from the Rasmus Sandin trade with Washington at the trade deadline. Furthermore, it sounds like that pick could be in play, but we’ll see what happens.
Appropriately, we kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the day Jay Rosehill was drafted. For me, that’s the best part of attending this event is seeing the utter joy and happiness on the faces of the kids and their families. What an amazing accomplishment.
As expected, here in Nashville, it’s been quiet on the Leafs front as they do their best to solidify things as soon as possible with Auston Matthews and William Nylander. While I’m always careful to believe everything I hear this time of year, interestingly, the Leafs were linked once again to Erik Karlsson on Tuesday. Personally, I just don’t see a fit unless things go south with Nylander, and they’re forced to trade him.
Meantime, the NHL released its schedule for the 2023-24 campaign. The Leafs will kick off the season on October 11th at home against the Montreal Canadiens. We broke down all the key dates.
