Hurricanes Place Goalie Spencer Martin On Waivers

by admin

As the NHL season is set to begin in a weeks time, teams across the league are starting to trim down their rosters to the 23-man limit.

With the waiver wire active the last few days, the Hurricanes joined in the fray today as they have placed Spencer Martin on waivers.

While the Hurricanes have been one of the few teams in the league over the last couple of seasons to carry three goaltenders on their roster at times, there was no need to continue that trend this season. With Freddy Andersen healthy and the young Pyotr Kochetkov ready to see more action, it shouldn’t come as a shock that Canes decided to place Martin on waivers.

Martin was originally acquired by the Hurricanes last January when they claimed Martin off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Martin went on to play in 6 games for the Hurricanes in 23-24, going 4-1-1 with a 2.63 goals against average and a .896 save percentage.

The Hurricanes will find out by 2PM EST tomorrow whether or not Martin was claimed by another NHL team or will be reporting to Chicago of the AHL.

Martin was drafted in the 3rd round 63rd overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2013 NHL draft. In 57 career games split between the Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Hurricanes, Martin is 21-26-7 with 3.52 GAA and .887 SV %
