Two crosstown rivals have matched up on a one-for-one trade, as the Islanders have acquired forward Tyce Thompson from the Devils in exchange for forward Arnaud Durandeau.
Thompson, a 24-year-old right-handed shooting center, is a Milford, CT native.
He served as a captain for two of his three years at the University of Providence, and led the team in all offensive categories during his junior season with 11 goals and 14 assists for a total of 25 points.
Thompson was a fourth round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
He’s appeared in just 11 games at the NHL level, but has enjoyed some success in the minors. Across 98 games with New Jersey’s AHL affiliate, he’s posted 50 points (15 goals and 35 assists) over the span of three seasons.
Durandeau was the Islanders’ sixth round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He had a four game stint at the NHL level last season but failed to make the team out of training camp this year, but has been buried on the depth chart.
Durandeau made his AHL debut during the 2019-20 season and has been a solid member of the Bridgeport Islanders since then.
He’s recorded 112 points (49 goals and 63 assists) across 179 regular season games. Last season with Bridgeport, he finished third on the team with 24 goals and 31 assists.
