On Monday afternoon the New York Islanders announced that they’ve signed forward Hudson Fasching to a two-year contract extension.
Despite a strong showing in training camp, Fasching was sent back down to the AHL to start the year. He carried that success over to Bridgeport and finally found his way into the NHL starting lineup in early December.
From there, Fasching stuck, establishing himself as a weapon for head coach Lane Lambert. He received playing time up and down the Islanders lineup, from the first to fourth line, and put together a strong season.
Prior to this year, the 28-year-old had just one goal and two assists in 38 games across five seasons with the Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres. This season he recorded ten goals and nine assists in 48 games, and finished third on the team with a +10.
Fasching, who told reporters during his exit interview that he’s happy to finally be able to stick in New York, also discussed his career year.
“It’s a culmination of a lot of work to get here. It felt really good to have the success I had here and to make the jump to the NHL for a long period of time,” he said.
“That’s what everybody in the minors is working toward and that’s something I’ve worked hard toward.”
