Jets’ Head Coach Scott Arniel Makes NHL History

The 8-0-0 Winnipeg Jets have started the 2024-25 season better than any other club, and continue to find ways to win hockey games.

Now having won eight-straight games to open the season, and 16-straight regular season games dating back to last year, the Jets are absolutely rolling.

And despite the lack of a big-name offensive/defensive offseason signing, Winnipeg continues to get the job done on the scoreboard.

On Saturday night, the Jets beat the Calgary Flames 5-3, with backup goaltender Eric Comrie getting his second victory of the season, and it came in his home province.

The win, on the other hand, was special for Scott Arniel, as well.

Moving to 8-0-0 to start the season, Arniel has become the first NHL coach ever to collect a win in his first eight games.

The record stands the test of time, with no big-league coach in his first year with his team ever having accomplished more than seven wins to start a season.

Arniel – who filled in on three separate points for Rick Bowness over the past two years – is now 23-7-3 all-time as the coach of record in Winnipeg.

The former Winnipeg Jets forward-turned coach also spent time coaching the Jets’ AHL affiliate, Manitoba in the mid-2000s.
