Jonathan Melee named Petes’ captain

Peterborough, ON – Peterborough Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations, Michael Oke announced today that forward Jonathan Melee has been named the 63rd Captain of the Peterborough Petes.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be named the 63rd Captain of the Peterborough Petes,” commented Melee. “I’m super excited to lead and teach these new young players the championship way of Peterborough.”
Melee, a 2004-born forward, was originally selected by the Hamilton Bulldogs in the second round, 21st overall, of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. Melee was acquired by the Petes on January 9, 2022 in a trade involving Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish. Through 153 OHL games, Melee has scored 31 goals and added 47 assists for 77 points. A native of Rockland, ON, Melee has been enjoying a career year this season, already hitting career highs in goals (12) and assists (20) in only 35 games.
“We’re very excited to announce Jonathan Melee as the 63rd Captain of the Peterborough Petes,” noted Oke. “Jonathan has proven to be a great leader on and off the ice since being acquired two years ago. He’s somebody that the team looks up to, and we’re very confident in his leadership moving forward.”
Oke also announced that overage defenceman Cam Gauvreau and import forward Tommy Purdeller have both been named Assistant Captains for the 2023-24 season.
The Petes are back in action on Thursday, January 11 when they host the Kingston Frontenacs for Harry Potter Night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC.
