Easton Cowan’s point streak continued on Friday night in Kingston as the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect kept it alive with his 28th goal of the season that came with 8:29 remaining in the third period.
Cowan’s 25-game run dates back to Nov. 25th, and ties Sergei Kostitsyn’s 2006-07 mark for the second-longest streak in franchise history. Dave Gilmore, who went 33 games from Oct. 10, 1993 through Jan. 14, 1994, has held the club record for just over 30 years.
Cowan has found ways to keep the OHL season-high streak alive in recent weeks, doing so in overtime on Feb. 11th in Oshawa as he scored the deciding goal with 21 seconds remaining in the extra frame.
A first round (28th overall) pick by Toronto in last summer’s NHL Draft, Cowan leads all OHL skaters with 1.77 points-per-game in 2023-24, a figure that translates into 76 points (28-48–76) over 43 games. The Mt. Brydges, Ont. native represented Canada at the World Juniors this past January, and currently sits second in the OHL with six shorthanded goals.
Cowan and the Midwest Division-leading Knights are back in action on Saturday afternoon in Ottawa when the puck drops at 3:00pm.
