MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads have announced that defenceman Luke Dragusica has been signed to a Standard Player Agreement. The Steelheads selected Dragusica in the second round, 40th overall, of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.

“We are happy to announce the signing of Luke Dragusica and excited to see him in the Steelheads uniform in the fall,” stated Head Coach and General Manager, James Richmond. “He will be big strong force on our back end for years to come.”

Hailing from Stoney Creek, Ontario, the left-shot defenceman spent this past season with the Toronto Marlboros of the GTHL. In 35 games, the 6’1” blueliner put up 8 points (1G, 7A) and posted 3 assists in 5 games in the OHL Cup.

“It’s an honour to be drafted to such an amazing organization.” said the newest member of the Club. “I’ve worked at this all of my life but this is the first step to achieving my dream.”

Given his size, Dragusica’s strongest asset is his physicality and making his presence known on the ice. His skating abilities and defensive play further enhance his game.

“This is really I dream come true, it couldn’t have worked out any better. I just want to thank my family for doing there part and supporting me every step of the way.”

OHL Central Scouting says: “Luke is a very versatile defender. He has a great combination of skill, skating and physicality that make him stand out in every game that he plays. He is a powerful skater with excellent lateral mobility; he uses his skating ability to play a tight gap and take away time and space from the opposition. His compete and physical play are what really separate him from other defencemen. He is hard to play against and wins the majority of his battles in his own end.”
