Seven playoff spots are claimed and nine remain as we embark on another week of OHL action. Here’s a look across the League.

Sting’s Kyrou named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, signs with Stars:
Dallas Stars prospect Christian Kyrou of the Sarnia Sting is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, five assists and seven points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6. The Stars signed Kyrou to at three-year entry-level NHL contract on Wednesday. Read more

Battalion’s DiVincentiis named OHL Goaltender of the Week:
Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins including a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .972. Read more

67’s and Sting make Week 22 edition of Kia CHL Top 10:
The Ottawa 67’s and Sarnia Sting are included in the Week 22 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings while the Barrie Colts, North Bay Battalion and London Knights received honourable mentions. Watch

OHL partners with Dairy Farmers of Ontario to present 2023 Development Combine:
The 2023 OHL Development Combine presented by Dairy Farmers of Ontario will be held Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16 at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. The Combine will feature 76 prospects, including 36 forwards, 24 defencemen and 16 goaltenders eligible for the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. OHL to host 2nd Annual Officiating Prospect Development Combine from June 8-10:
The OHL will host its 2nd Annual Officiating Prospect Development Combine that will take place from June 8-10 at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre in Belleville, Ont. A total of 17 officials in attendance at last year’s Combine were given the opportunity to officiate in the OHL for the 2022-23 season. Read more

London Knights are 2023 Midwest Division champions:
Though idle on Sunday, the London Knights managed to clinch their fourth consecutive Midwest Division title thanks to a Barrie Colts 6-3 victory over the Owen Sound Attack. Read more

67’s’ Boucher to miss remainder of season to surgery:
The Ottawa 67’s announced Thursday that forward Tyler Boucher will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs due to shoulder surgery. Boucher’s procedure is scheduled to take place in the next few weeks, with an anticipated recovery time of three to four months. The expectation is that Tyler will be fully recovered before next year’s training camp. The 20-year-old recorded 10 goals, eight assists and 18 points in 21 games this season. He was a first round pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 2021 NHL Draft. Read more at ottawa67s.com

IceDogs’ Ribau commits to Queen’s University:
The Queen’s University Gaels men’s hockey program has announced that Niagara IceDogs defenceman Nathan Ribau has committed for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Read more

Huron-Perth Lakers become first team to clinch OHL Cup berth
The 13th edition of the weekly OHL Cup Top 10 Rankings was released on Tuesday, with the Huron-Perth Lakers making their first appearance of the season. The Lakers are the first team to punch their ticket to the 2023 OHL Cup, that gets underway on Tuesday March 28th at the Scotiabank Pond in Toronto. Read more

GoFundMe: Support Oshawa Generals scout Mike Craig in his battle with cancer
An Oshawa Generals scout of 15 years, Mike Craig is in the fight of his life. He has been diagnosed with a rare form of colorectal cancer, that has been very difficult to treat. He has vowed to not give up this fight. Our goal is to raise $75,000.00 for The Craig Family, to raise funds for ongoing treatments, and expenses not covered, and to assist with James’ and Jacob’s educational expenses. World Kidney Day: The Verner’s Story
The Peterborough Petes are hosting a World Kidney Day Game Night on Thursday. The game will be focused around Petes Associate Coach and alumnus, Andrew Verner, who has lived with glomerulonephritis since 1999 and is now raising funds and awareness for the cause. Read more

The Ottawa 67’s are set to host their Staycation game on Friday. Join the 67’s as they transport you to a tropical destination with Staycation! The concourse will have photo booths, prizing, activations, tropical food and beverages, and more. Their annual annual wiener dog race will also take place during the game!

The Sudbury Wolves are set to host their Pride night on Friday. Pride Night will provide an opportunity for all Wolves fans to celebrate and expand their knowledge on Pride in the community through special activations. Read more

ALUMNI NOTES:

Reigning OHL MVP Johnston makes Dallas Stars history:
Recipient of the Red Tilson Trophy in 2021-22, Wyatt Johnston made a smooth jump to the NHL and set a Dallas Stars club record on Saturday. Dallas defeated the Colorado Avalanche 7-3 and the 19-year-old Johnston scored his 15th goal, the most in a single season by a teenager in Dallas Stars history. The mark sits fourth in the all-time history of the Stars franchise. Read more

Evangelista scores first two NHL goals in same game:
Reigning OHL goal-scoring champion Luke Evangelista had a big night for the Nashville Predators on Monday. The 21-year-old from Oakville, Ont. scored his first two NHL goals as the Preds fell 4-3 to the Vancouver Canucks. Evangelista, who scored 55 goals for the London Knights last season, put together 41 points (9-32–41) in 49 games for the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals prior to being called-up by Nashville. He was selected by the Predators in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Miller scores OT winner in 700th NHL game:
Former Plymouth Whalers forward J.T. Miller skated in his 700th NHL game on Wednesday. The 29-year-old scored the overtime winner as the Canucks defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. Miller has recorded 512 points (192-320-512) through his 700 games played with the Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers. The East Palestine, OH. native spent one season with the Whalers, recording 62 points (25-37-62) in 61 games.

Several OHL grads among OUA award winners:
A number of OHL graduates are 2022-23 OUA men’s hockey award winners. Former Guelph Storm forward Jacob Roach of the Brock Badgers headlines the group as OUA West MVP while former Hamilton Bulldogs blueliner Jake Gravelle of the Western Mustangs is the OUA West Defenceman of the Year. In goal, former Oshawa Generals netminder Nathan Torchia of the Windsor Lancers is the OUA West Goaltender of the Year. Former Oshawa Generals and Saginaw Spirit forward Kyle Bollers is the OUA West recipient of the Randy Gregg Award given to the player who best demonstrates excellence as a student-athlete. Former Erie Otters forward Kyle Pettit of the Western Mustangs is the recipient of the OUA West Most Sportsmanlike Award. Rounding out the group former London Knights forward/defenceman Andrew Wilkins of the Lakehead Thunderwolves is the OUA West Coach of the Year.

Carson named AUS Male Athlete of the Week:
Former Sudbury Wolves captain Macauley Carson of the UNB REDS is the AUS Male Athlete of the Week, scoring once and assisting on another goal as the REDS defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 4-2 in Game 1 of their AUS Championship Final series. The third-year business student from Midhurst, Ont. remains the all-time leader in Sudbury Wolves games played, suiting up in 304 over five seasons from 2015-20. Carson and his UNB teammates play a third and deciding game against Saint Mary’s for the AUS Championship on Thursday.
