ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey team fell to the visiting #7 ranked Beavers from Babson College on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. After Bailey Krawczyk ’24 scored the game-opening goal at the 8:31 mark in the second period, the Beavers would answer with two goals over a span of 1:02, including the game-winner from Max Torrez.
Despite the Beavers spending double the amount of time in the penalty box, the Soaring Eagles were unable to overcome a 1-for-6 effort on the power-play as the Beavers skated to a 3-1 victory.
JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: No. 11 Elmira 1, No. 7 Babson 3

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-2-0, 1-1-0 NEHC), Babson (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game played scoreless in the first, with the puck spending a good amount of time between the blue lines with each team clearing the puck its fair share of times. Babson earned its first attempt in the opening period after Christian Abrams ’25 was sent to the penalty box for interference. Following a successful penalty-kill, the Soaring Eagles then earned back-to-back power-play attempts on hooking and tripping calls for the Beavers, but came up empty-handed on each of its attempts.
In the first, Jeffrey Zero ’23 made eight saves between the pipes, while Nolan Hildebrand made 14 saves for the Beavers. EC led the faceoff battle 9-6.
The first half of the second period played much like the first, as little offense occurred before Babson was tabbed with a penalty for having too many men on the ice. Just under a minute into the Elmira power-play, it was Elmira native Bailey Krawczyk ’24 who put the puck past Hildebrand on assists from Graham Denomme ’23 and Daniel Dimon ’24. For Denomme, it was his second assist of the season.
Following the goal, the Beavers would pick things up on the offensive end and net their first goal just four minutes after Krawczyk’s to tie the game at 1-1. For Babson, it was Andrew Holland who would score on an assist from Charlie Andriole. Off the faceoff, the Beavers would push the offense yet again, scoring its second goal in a span of 1:02 as Max Torrez scored on an assist from Will Holland to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
After being outshot 14-8 in the opening period, the Beavers flipped the switch to outshoot Elmira 15-6 in the second.
In the third, the Soaring Eagles were on a power-play to start the frame due to a delay of game call at the end of the second. Despite getting a good attempt on net in the early-going of the advantage, the Soaring Eagles would come up empty.
After Kerfalla Toure ’26 was sent to the box on a slashing call at the 7:03 mark in the period, the Soaring Eagles would defend well until Wyatt George was able to rebound the shot from Will Holland to put the puck past Zero which increased the Babson lead to 3-1 and conclude the offense for the afternoon.
Zero made 26 saves in net for the afternoon compared to 36 for Hildebrand.
UP NEXT:
Elmira returns to the ice next Saturday as it returns to non-conference play with a trip to Annville, Pennsylvania for a meeting with the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.
