BLOOMINGTON, Minn. â Winter sports teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) stayed busy last week with NCAA Hockey Tournament contests and the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Postseason action will continue this week with the Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships beginning on Wednesday and a pair of MIAC hockey teams in national out-round competition over the weekend.
Women’s Hockey
MIAC champion Gustavus Adolphus College picked up two tournament wins last week, defeating UW-Eau Claire, 3-0, in the opening round on Wednesday and UW-River Falls, 5-3, in the national quarterfinals on Saturday. The Gusties will head to Middlebury, Vt. for the final two rounds of the national tournament where they will meet Plattsburgh State at 2:00 p.m. CT Friday night with a spot in the national championship on the line. Middlebury and Elmira will clash in the other semifinal contest. Gustavus has reached the NCAA semifinals nine times in program history and is looking to reach the title game for the first time ever with a win on Friday.

Men’s Hockey
St. Olaf’s magical postseason run came to an end on Saturday night, as No. 6-ranked St. Norbert rallied back from a 3-1 deficit after two periods to defeat the Oles, 4-3, in overtime of the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Tournament. St. Olaf had defeated the top three teams in the MIAC standings during the conference playoffs to punch its ticket back to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history and the first time since 2006. Regular season MIAC champion Augsburg is now set to host St. Norbert in a quarterfinal contest on Saturday, March 19. The Auggies – back in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history and the fifth time in the last seven years – earned an at-large berth to the Tournament last Monday.

Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Competing in the national indoor championship for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MIAC track & field student-athletes earned a total of 16 All-America honors at the 2022 national championship meet over the weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. Four men and ten women from the conference accounted for the 16 All-America honors across 11 different events.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving
The 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships will be held March 16-19 at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The MIAC has qualified 13 competitors for the 2022 NCAA Championships. NCAA.com will video stream all sessions Wednesday through Saturday of the championships.
