The 28-year-old has been injury-plagued over his seven year career. In two seasons with Ottawa before joining the Maple Leafs, Murray made just 47 total appearances. Furthermore, he hasn’t hit the 40 game plateau since 2018-19 when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Murray made 19 stops in his Maple Leafs debut in Wednesday night’s season opening 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. He was expected to get the call tonight against his former team.
Ilya Samsonov didn’t stay out for extra work at Leafs skate
