The fifth weekend of the Premier Hockey Federation season opened with Friday night action at Simsbury’s ISCC, the new home of the Connecticut Whale who defeated the Minnesota Whitecaps.
Minnesota Whitecaps 0, Connecticut Whale 2
It was a perfect home opener in so many ways for the Whale, most notably on the scoreboard courtesy of Abbie Ives who earned her first career shutout with a strong 24-save performance. Connecticut was relentless in their attack, sporting new third jerseys and feeding off the energy of the enthusiastic crowd that packed their new rink. Kennedy Marchment, last week’s PHF First Star, scored the first goal in the team’s new era at ISCC on the power play, burying a cross-ice feed from Katerina Mrazova at 9:04 of the first period. Marchment added her second point of the game with a set up for Alyssa Wohlfeiler who netted the insurance marker at 3:07 of the third period. The Whale outshot the Whitecaps 43-24, with Amanda Leveille playing outstanding despite defeat.
