BOSTON, MA – (November 8, 2022) – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced its Three Stars of the Week following opening weekend action played November 5-6, 2022. The top performers feature a trio of newcomers including goaltender Corinne Schroeder of the Boston Pride, forward Brittany Howard of the Toronto Six, and Boston forward Élizabeth Giguère.
First Star: Corinne Schroeder was unbeatable in her PHF debut between-the-pipes for Boston. The 23-year-old from Elm Creek, Manitoba posted back-to-back shutouts for the Pride with 63 total saves for a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000. In Saturday night’s home opener she stopped all 36 shots in a 4-0 win over the Connecticut Whale, then turned aside 27 in Sunday afternoon’s 2-0 victory against the Metropolitan Riveters. She’s just the third goaltender in PHF history and first member of the Pride to earn a shutout in her first career start, and the fourth Pride goaltender all-time to achieve consecutive shutouts joining Katie Burt (2021-22), Lovisa Selander (2019-20), and Brittany Ott (2016-17). Schroeder signed with Boston following a five-year NCAA career that included four seasons at Boston University followed by the 2021-22 campaign at Quinnipiac University. As a Bobcat she won 15 games with six shutouts and was a candidate for the NCAA Women’s Goalie of the Year award. In August she was invited to Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Program Summer Showcase.
Second Star: Brittany Howard leads the PHF in scoring with four points including three goals and one assist in two games. She powered the Toronto Six to a weekend sweep over the Minnesota Whitecaps with a pair of 3-2 victories, headlined by a three-point effort in Saturday’s season opener that stands out as the top individual offensive performance of the weekend. Her first career PHF goal was the season’s first on the scoreboard, followed by a primary assist on the game-tying goal, and then scored the overtime winner. Her snipe on Sunday was scored even strength in the first period and was one of her PHF leading 11 shots on goal in two games. The 26-year-old from St. Thomas, Ontario joined the PHF this offseason following three years with the PWHPA. She also has a season of professional experience as a member of the CWHL’s Toronto Furies in 2018-19. Howard graduated from Robert Morris University in 2018 after five seasons where she amassed 181 points including a program record 79 goals in 138 games.
Third Star: Élizabeth Giguère also made the most of her PHF debut in Boston, tallying twice with one assist for three points in two games for the Pride. On Saturday her first career PHF goal opened the scoring for the defending Isobel Cup champions early in the second period and held as the game-winner in a 4-0 victory against Connecticut. She also added a primary assist on Loren Gabel’s third period insurance marker to finish with two points. Her goal on Sunday was scored early in the second period and provided insurance in a 2-0 triumph over the Riveters. The 25-year-old from Quebec City, Quebec joined the Pride after a star studded NCAA career that included four years at Clarkson University and one season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She helped the Golden Knights capture the 2018 NCAA National Championship, and in 2020 was named the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner as the top player in NCAA women’s hockey. She finished her tenure at Clarkson as the program’s all-time leading scorer with an incredible 233 points in 137 games, then added 62 points in 40 games for the Bulldogs during the 2021-22 campaign. Giguère will compete with Canada’s National Women’s Team November 15-20 for the first three games of the Rivalry Series against the United States.
