Sunday’s Premier Hockey Federation schedule featured three-afternoon games.
Buffalo Beauts 2, Toronto Six 7
Toronto scored five unanswered goals to break a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes and complete a six-point weekend sweep over Buffalo. Emma Woods led the way with a career-high four-point performance, scoring once with three assists. Lexi Templeman also recorded her first career three-point game with a goal and two assists. Five other T6 players produced multi-point efforts including Breanne Wilson-Bennett and Shiann Darkangelo with a goal and an assist each. Single goals came from Brooke Boquist, Michela Cava, and Daryl Watts with her first in the PHF. Emma Nuutinen opened the scoring for the Beauts with her second goal of the season, followed by Madi Nichols with the first of her career. Carly Jackson made 15 saves for her third win of the season and second against her former team. Lovisa Berndtsson took the loss and was relieved early in the third period by Samantha Ridgewell who made her Beauts debut. T6 remains in second place, four points behind Boston.
Minnesota Whitecaps 4, Montreal Force 1
The Force struck first but the Whitecaps replied with four unanswered goals to pick up the win in the first of two games in Saint-Jerome. Minnesota’s Jonna Albers, Sidney Morin, and Liz Schepers all recorded two points with a goal and assist each. Albers’ goal was scored in the first period on the power play and counts as her ninth of the year. Schepers’ fourth of the year was also on the power play and held as the game-winner midway through the third. The Whitecaps added two empty-net goals including one by Morin and the other from Brittyn Fleming. Montreal’s All-Star defender Catherine Daoust scored the team’s opening goal. Amanda Leveille earned her eighth win of the season in goal for Minnesota making 28 saves. Montreal’s Tricia Deguire stopped 38 in defeat. The win gives the Whitecaps a three point lead over Connecticut for third place in the overall standings. The Force wore specially designed jerseys to support the local Indigenous not-for-profit Iakwahwatsiratátie.
Connecticut Whale 2, Boston Pride 5
Boston completed a unique weekend sweep with their second victory over a second opponent at Warrior Ice Arena. All-Star MVP Loren Gabel led the way with a four-point performance including the team’s opening tally and the game-winner to bring her goal total to 17 which leads the PHF. Her two assists also brings her league-leading point total to 31. Taylor House scored her second goal of the season, Jillian Dempsey got her 11th on the power play, and Elizabeth Giguere notched her sixth of the campaign to round out the Pride’s offense. Alyssa Wohlfeiler’s first period goal cut the Whale’s deficit to 2-1 at the time, with Caitrin Lonergan’s third period goal bringing them to within three with under five to play. The Pod outshot the Pride 50-33 in this contest as Corinne Schroeder earned her 14th win of the season with 48 saves. Abbie Ives stopped 28 shots in the loss. Boston now has 40 points atop the PHF standings with a four-point lead over Toronto. Connecticut remains in fourth place, three points behind Minnesota heading into Monday’s matinee.
