According to a social media post by the NHL on Tuesday, Pittsburgh Penguins legends Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are the highest-scoring teammates since 2005, scoring 2,359 points when skating in the same game.
For perspective, that total accounts for 81.5% of their career totals (2,892), with Crosby scoring 1,596 points and Malkin scoring 1,296 points.
The long-time Penguins teammates led the team to three Stanley Cups together in 2008, 2016, and 2017 and have won four scoring titles over the past 19 years.
They are the only duo outside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom (2,141) of the Washington Capitals to collect over 2,000 points together.
Moreover, Crosby also slides into the fourth spot on this list with 1,798 points with defenseman Kris Letang. The Pittsburgh captain appears twice in the top four, ranking behind former Chicago Blackhawks teammates Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews (1,921 points), who were third.
The final spot on the list belongs to twin brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who compiled 1,765 points during their careers with the Vancouver Canucks.
In the comments, fans wanted to know where Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr ranked, but since this list only consists of data from 2005, two of the best players to ever play in Pittsburgh didn’t make the cut since they separated in 2001 when Jagr was traded to Washington.
Hopefully, someone will come up with data on legendary teammates so we can figure out where Crosby and Malkin rank among the all-time greats.
