Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers are proud to announce that Hendrix Hanes, the club’s video coach and senior developer, has accepted an NHL position as the Calgary Flames’ Developer & Data Scientist.

“While we are sad to see Hendrix leave our organization, we are thrilled he has earned this opportunity and will be moving on to bigger and better things,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “He has worked very hard and has been a key member of our staff in both the video and analytics side. We will miss him in Kitchener but wish him the best of luck in Calgary.”

Hanes began with the Rangers prior to the 2019-20 season as an Analytics Consultant where he analyzed Rangers’ game video for usage in analytics reporting and development within the club’s hockey operations department. The Fonthill, Ont. native was then promoted to developer role in time for the 2020-21 season, contributing to the active development of analytics reporting. Most recently, Hanes was again promoted before the 2021-22 campaign as Video Coach and Senior Developer for the Rangers, where he expanded on the developer role and curated and prepared video for use by the Rangers’ coaching staff. Hanes was also integral in mentoring Rangers’ junior developers within the organization during his time in Kitchener.

“I would like to thank the Kitchener Rangers for the last four years in the analytics department and two years as video coach,” said Hanes. “The learning experiences offered and connections made will be appreciated for a lifetime. I look forward to representing the organization in the NHL with the Flames.”

With the Flames, Hanes will be tasked with researching and developing analytics-based projects and platforms with the purpose of assisting the Flames’ hockey operations development.

Hanes holds a master’s degree of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Waterloo, a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in Statistics from the University of Waterloo and a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in Finance from Wilfrid Laurier University.

He will officially join the Flames in time for the 2023-24 NHL season.
