Oshawa, Ont. – The Oshawa Generals organization is extremely excited to announce the commitment Owen Griffin to the organization. Griffin was selected 6th overall in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection on Friday, April 21st.
The York-Simcoe Express forward is described as one of the smartest and most skilled centres from this year’s draft class. He makes everyone around him better as he puts the puck in areas where they will be successful.
In the 2022-2023 season with the York-Simcoe Express, Griffin played 35 games, scored 51 goals, and added 43 assists for 94 points. His totals were good for 2.7 points per game.
“I am beyond excited and honoured to be drafted by the Generals,” says Griffin. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to the rink and meeting the rest of the team and organization.”
GensNation’s first opportunity to see Griffin on the ice comes next weekend during the 2023-2024 Orientation Camp on May 13th and 14th. Scrimmages will be open to the public, and a schedule along with rosters will be made available soon.
Griffin will wear number 96.
OHL Central Scouting says: “Owen is hard to defend against because he is also a dangerous goal-scorer who has a deceiving shot that he gets off quickly and is very accurate. His smarts always have him in the right place at the right time and the puck seems to follow him around the ice. He is a top-end playmaker that sees the ice extremely well. Owen is defensively responsible and does not cheat on either side of the puck.”
