The Springfield Thunderbirds announced they have signed forward Matt Luff to an AHL contract for the remainder of the season.
This move comes just hours after Luff was released from his PTO by the Charlotte Checkers.
The Oakville, Ont., native had two goals and two assists in six games with the Checkers. He had 10 goals and 18 points in 26 games with Grand Rapids last season.
The 27-year-old has been a consistent producer over parts of nine career AHL seasons, notching 69 goals and 167 points in 229 games.
Luff has 15 goals and 27 points in 106 career NHL games split between the Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, and Detroit Red Wings.
The Thunderbirds sit at 4-7 through 11 games this season. Luff should help round out an offense that has relied heavily on Dalibor Dvorsky, Nikita Alexandrov, and Hugh McGing to begin the season.
