Hockey Canada announced Sunday that Mississauga Steelheads forward Owen Beck has been added to Canada’s National Junior Team roster as an injury replacement for Kelowna Rockets forward Colton Dach.

The 18-year-old Beck has 17 goals and 40 points in 30 games with the Steelheads this season and was one of Canada’s final cuts ahead of the World Juniors at the team’s selection camp. One of the League’s top face-off performers, Beck is 58.9 percent on the draw this season.

A native of Port Hope, Ont., Beck was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. He was both OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year in his rookie season, recording 21 goals, 30 assists and 51 points in 68 games for Mississauga. Beck was named to the OHL’s second all-rookie team in 2021-22.

Canada is back in action Jan. 2 when they face Slovakia in the quarterfinals in Halifax. Puck drop is 6:30pm ET.
