The Marlies announce their 2023 Training Camp Roster

by

The Marlies are set to begin their 2023-24 season and the first order of business was announcing their training camp roster.

A total of 31 players have been included in this roster, with more sure to follow in the coming days with the Leafs still in the midst of trimming down their roster with the start of their campaign fast approaching.

Some of the most notable names at this year’s training camp include Alex Steeves, Nick Arbuzzesse, Roni Hirvonen, Topi Niemela, and Ty Voit. Steeves and Abruzzesse definitely had an impressive showing at training camp but their contracts being waiver exempt made it logical to assign them both to the Marlies, especially given where they stand on the depth chart. The training camp roster includes Keith Petruzzelli and Tommy Miller, as the Leafs announced today that the two players were assigned to the Marlies.

As mentioned earlier, there remain a few players who are not currently present with the Marlies. The vast majority of the next wave of players joining the team later this week will first need to pass through waivers. Guys like Kyle Clifford, Dylan Gambrell, Max Lajoie, Simon Benoit, and William Lagesson should be able to clear without issue, while the likes of Bobby McMann and Martin Jones could be susceptible to being snagged up by another team.

In terms of the waiver-exempt players still on the Leafs’ training camp roster, Nick Robertson, Pontus Holmberg, and Mikko Kokkonen have had impressive showings with the NHL team and make things interesting regarding what happens to them before the NHL campaign starts. Granted, they could all still join the AHL squad when it’s all said and done but it certainly raises some intrigue for the time being.

The Marlies will play two preseason games on consecutive nights to kick things off, first against the Laval Rockets on October 5th and then against the Belleville Senators on October 6th. Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.

Their season officially commences on October 14th against the Rochester Americans.
