The Toronto Marlies announced they have signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year AHL contract for the 2024-25 season.
The 26-year-old recorded 11 goals and 15 points in 23 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and 17 goals and 32 points in 43 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season.
Originally selected eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2016 draft, Nylander has 49 points in 121 career NHL games split between the Sabres, Blue Jackets, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He has 94 goals and 210 points in 330 career AHL games.
After being non-tendered by the Blue Jackets The Hockey News Toronto discussed the possibility of the Leafs signing him.
Nylander will likely attend Toronto Maple Leafs training camp this fall in hopes of earning a NHL contract. Nylander’s AHL deal does not count as one of Toronto’s 50 contract slots.

Nylander is immensely skilled and looks to become a depth winger for the Maple Leafs, his strong finish to the season with Columbus last year showed he can produce offense at the NHL level.
If he does remain with the Marlies he will count as a veteran, as he has played more the 320 professional games. AHL teams can only dress a maximum of five veteran players per game.
Alex’s brother William signed an eight-year, $92 million extension last season to remain with the Maple Leafs through the 2031-32 season, the two now get to live in the same city and ideally play for the same team.
