Acquired by the Utah Hockey Club in a trade with the Ottawa Senators this past July, Sokolov has started the season on the right foot. In two games last week, Sokolov scored four goals, netting two in each game.
In Tucson’s first game against the Bakersfield Condors Friday, Sokolov scored two goals in the third period to help the Roadrunners to a 5-3 victory. In their second game against the Condors Saturday, Sokolov scored late in the first period and added the overtime winner to give his team a 3-2 win.
A product of Yekaterinburg, Russia, Sokolov has appeared in six games for Tucson this year, collecting five goals and three assists for eight points.
Drafted by the Senators in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Sokolov has played in 13 career NHL regular season games, putting up two points.
Having proven to be a solid offensive producer at the AHL level, Sokolov could very well play himself into a call-up conversation over the course of the season. Capable of playing a bottom-six role, Sokolov could prove to be a good depth add for Utah.
