EA Sports introduced a brand new pressure system in NHL 24 that underwent multiple changes throughout the year, often to mixed reviews among the the community.
The system was introduced to reward offensive pressure and high-danger scoring chances, but initially ended up encouraging puck ragging and play along the outside of the zone.
A significant nerf came to the pressure system in January, and helped balance out how quickly the attacking time could activate pressure.
The first deep dive into NHL 25 gameplay was released on Thursday, along with a blog post breaking down changes to goalies, bodychecking, and the pressure system.

The tweak to the pressure system is:
-
A team that activates pressure will receive 20% increase to their on-ice player stamina meters
This change will allow offensive players an extra boost once they have established pressure.
One improvement we’d like to see is a visual adjustment to the full pressure meter, minimizing how large the red timer is in the middle of the ice.
The changes to the AI system and bodychecking should help keep the pressure system balanced. Additionally, the changes to goaltending should prevent goaltenders from immediately flopping once full pressure is active.
