The Abbotsford Canucks have added more depth up front, signing Sammy Blais to a contract for the 2024-25 season. In addition to the contract, Blais has also received an invitation to Vancouver Canucks training camp and will join the group on a PTO. The 28-year-old spent last season with the St. Louis Blues, recording seven points and 194 hits in 53 games.

Blais has split his 257-game NHL career with the Blues and New York Rangers. He was on St. Louis’ roster when they won the Stanley Cup in 2019, recording 70 hits in 15 games. Initially drafted 176th in 2014, Blais was a junior teammate of Daniel Sprong, as the two were part of Charlottetown Islanders in 2015-16.

Adding Blais provides Abbotsford with some experience in their forward group. The Canucks are projected to have one of the youngest rosters in the AHL next season, with 15 players aged 23 and under. The deal also adds more toughness to Abbotford’s lineup, which should help the Canucks become a tougher team to play against next season.
