Hurricanes battle Rangers for conference final spot

by admin

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are both great at home and mediocre on the road in the 2022 playoffs.

The problem for the Rangers is that Game 7 of the teams’ Eastern Conference semifinal series will be at Carolina (8 p.m. ET Monday, ESPN).

The Hurricanes have won all seven of their home games, while going 0-6 on the road. The Rangers are 1-5 on the road while going 6-1 at home. The Rangers are also 4-0 in potential elimination games this postseason.

The winner of Monday’s game will host the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final Wednesday.

The Carolina Hurricanes are unbeaten in this season’s playoffs while playing in front of their home fans.

USA TODAY Sports’ NHL staffers weigh in on who will Game 7:

Mike Brehm: Hurricanes 3, Rangers 2. I had the Hurricanes facing the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final. They’ll take the next step with a home win against the Rangers.

Jimmy Hascup: Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3: After picking the Hurricanes in six in our second-round predictions, I’m going off the board here. Carolina goalie Antti Raanta showed cracks in the Game 6 loss, while New York has played its best hockey with its season on the line and has the Igor Shesterkin advantage between the pipes.

Jace Evans: Hurricanes 4, Rangers 2. Carolina is just a different team at home, where it is 7-0 in the playoffs this year. Make it 8-0.
