The NHL rumor mill is abuzz heading into tonight’s first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Here’s a look at five notable players being bandied about as potential trade bait.
Alex DeBrincat, Chicago Blackhawks: The Philadelphia Flyers reportedly made a pitch for the 24-year-old winger. However, they’re said to be reluctant to part with their first-round pick (fifth overall) in this year’s draft as part of the return. Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek wondered if the New Jersey Devils might be a fit.
J.T. Miller, Vancouver Canucks: A contract extension for the 29-year-old center could prove too expensive for the Canucks. The Province‘s Ben Kuzma reported the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals are among the interested parties.
Jakob Chychrun, Arizona Coyotes: The 25-year-old defenseman drew plenty of interest leading up to the March trade deadline. GM Bill Armstrong could try again to peddle him before or during the first round. Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch cited sources saying the Blues Jackets were in talks with the Coyotes. They’re willing to part with the 12th-overall pick for a young NHL player.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, Winnipeg Jets: Larry Brooks of the New York Post recently reported the Rangers have been in touch with the Jets about Dubois, who’s interested in testing the 2024 free-agent market. They’re searching for a second-line center with Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp heading to free agency next week.
Jesse Puljujarvi, Edmonton Oilers: TSN’s Ryan Rishaug reported as many as four teams had kicked tired on the 24-year-old right winger. He may be ready for a change of scenery after failing to establish himself as a top-six forward in Edmonton.
