Watch: Pastrnak tries hand at goalie ahead of contract negotiations originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark had better watch out. The Boston Bruins might have a new goalie in town.
David Pastrnak showed off his athleticism on Thursday in videos of him playing goalie. Playing in the Czech Republic, he was joined by Czech hockey players, including Roman Cervenka, whom Pastrnak tagged in the his Instagram story. The videos show the B’s leading goal-scorer successfully making a few saves.
The star winger should be careful not to get injured in the offseason while playing goalie ahead of his extension contract negotiations with the Bruins. His agent will meet with Don Sweeney in Montreal in the days surrounding the 2022 NHL Draft.
2022 NHL Draft: Bruins among teams trying to trade into first round
The Bruins have been plagued with players requiring surgery this offseason, including Brad Marchand (both hips), Charlie McAvoy (shoulder), Patrice Bergeron (elbow), Matt Grzelcyk (shoulder) and Mike Reilly (ankle).
Boston’s lineup will be stretched thin at the beginning of the 2022-23 season as Marchand and McAvoy are both expected to have a six-month recovery timeline. Grzelcyk has a five-month recovery timeline.
Pastrnak led the Bruins last season with 40 goals. He also tallied 37 assists in the 2021-22 season. With Marchand, who recorded the most points for the Bruins, out at the beginning of the season, the team will rely on Pastrnak to score goals, not stop them.
