Four-year OHL forward Kurtis Gabriel announced his retirement from professional hockey on Tuesday.
Spending four seasons with the Owen Sound Attack, the 29-year-old Newmarket, Ont. native has called it a career after nine professional seasons that included 51 games in the NHL.
A third-round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2013, Gabriel posted two goals and five points in 51 career regular season contests with the Wild, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 39 AHL games last season with the Rockford IceHogs, posting three goals and one assist (3-1-4).
Gabriel spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2010-14, recording 100 points (34-66–100) over 232 career regular season games. He won an OHL championship with Owen Sound in 2011, and was a Memorial Cup finalist.
