Like many exploring new hobbies in their spare time these days, Emmett Sproule has been pursuing a new passion.
Together with his girlfriend, Ally Kincade, the fourth-year Erie Otters forward recently launched a new line of workout clothes: Manchester Wear.
With a shared love of working out and a mutual desire to start a business, the two came up with the idea in the summer and got to work.
âMe and Ally absolutely love the show Shark Tank, we probably watch that every night. We like the idea of starting our own business and the idea of clothing kind of just came to us. I think thatâs the way we want to go and start being entrepreneurs,â said the 20-year-old winger.
âWe came up with the idea back in July and then kept thinking of different names but nothing really clicked. Then I went to visit her at the end of December and thought of the name Manchester Wear.â

The name is derived from Manchester Beach Road in Pennsylvania where the two of them first met. The âmwâ on the logo is designed to look like waves, representative of the nearby water.
âAllyâs dad, whoâs been really supportive, got in touch with local designer Ryan Bookhamer, who then designed a couple logos for us and we picked the best one,â he continued. âFrom there, we found wholesalers who provided us clothing without labels on it and eventually we got our logos printed on.â
Sproule, who has been skating and working out in Erie while he awaits word on the 2020-21 OHL season, has received a lot of support for his new venture from his teammates and coaching staff since officially launching in late January.
âThe Otters, my family, Allyâs familyâ¦everyoneâs been supportive,â he said.
The two have enjoyed being able to work together and have been fulfilling orders in an office theyâve set up in Kincaidâs house. Among those orders is a large one from none other than Otters GM Dave Brown.
âDave Brown placed a large order of workout hoodies for the team. He bought like 38 of them, so weâre all going to be repping the Manchester Wear this year.â
