Opening weekend of the 2022-23 Premier Hockey Federation season wrapped up on Sunday with three games on the schedule. Here’s a closer look at the highlights:
Minnesota Whitecaps 2, Toronto Six 3
The Toronto Six completed the weekend sweep over the Minnesota Whitecaps to preserve their perfect record on Canadian ice. Saroya Tinker’s second period snipe held as the game-winner, following earlier singles from Leah Lum and Brittany Howard. Jonna Albers and Liz Schepers replied for the Whitecaps. Elaine Chuli earned a second straight win in goal with 25 saves, and Amanda Leveille was on the wrong side of another one-goal game stopping 27 shots.
Montreal Force 2, Buffalo Beauts 3
Autumn MacDougall broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period to give the Buffalo Beauts their first win of the season over the Montreal Force. Anjelica Diffendal had two assists and Tera Hofmann made 31 saves for the home side, while the visitors were led offensively by Catherine Dubois with two assists. Marie-Soleil Deschênes stopped 15 shots in her PHF debut.
Metropolitan Riveters 0, Boston Pride 2
Corinne Schroeder continued her masterful debut for the Boston Pride by posting a second straight shutout victory, this time with 27 saves in a 2-0 win over the Metropolitan Riveters. Captain Jillian Dempsey opened the scoring and newcomer Élizabeth Giguère tallied for the second game in a row. Despite the loss, Rachel McQuigge had a strong 45-save performance in her PHF debut.
