by admin

The first puck drop in a busy weekend across the Premier Hockey Federation took place on Friday night as action resumed following the annual All-Star break.

Connecticut Whale 1, Metropolitan Riveters 2 SO

For the second time this season the Riveters are shootout winners and pick up a valuable two points in the PHF standings. All-Star defender Minttu Tuominen scored the winner at the end of the third round after Katie Burt had denied all three Whale attempts. Burt’s performance also included 33 saves through regulation and overtime to pick up her third win of the season. Meeri Raisanen stopped 26 in the Connecticut crease and was two for three in the shootout. The Riveters opened the scoring early in the middle frame on a power play goal from Team World All-Star standout Fanni Gasparics. The Whale tied the game with a power play tally of their own early in the final stanza when All-Star Taylor Girard converted with the advantage. An assist from Kennedy Marchment extended her point-streak to 10-straight games. The two points puts the Riveters into a fifth place tie with Montreal, while the single point for Connecticut puts them into a third place tie with Minnesota.
