Soaring Eagles Put Seven Past NEC, Win 7-1

HENNIKER, NH. – Elmira College women’s hockey started quickly on Friday evening against the Pioneers of New England College, scoring in the first minute of action by way of a McKenzie Schmidt ’25 goal. This would be Elmira’s first of two goals scored in the first period and seven for the evening, picking up the 7-1 victory on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Schmidt got Elmira rolling early in the match, scoring her second goal of the season 48 seconds into the game. She was assisted by MK Boyle ’26 and Madi Morton ’24.
  • Emily Lenzen ’24 got Elmira’s second goal at the 16:41 mark, scoring her second goal of the season against her former team. Her goal was set up by Mandy McCarrick ’26 and Piper Andrews ’26. Elmira would take the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 
  • Elmira got a third goal 4:17 into the second period through an Erika Goleniak ’25 shot, making it a 3-0 contest and giving her her third goal in three matches for the Soaring Eagles. McCarrick also helped set this goal up, being credited with an assist along with Katie Manning ’25.
  • The Pioneers got one back on the power play, bringing Elmira’s lead down to two 16:16 into the second period.
  • The Soaring Eagles got one right back just over a minute later, with Goleniak scoring again at the 17:52 mark. This unassisted goal gave Goleniak her second two-goal performance of the season.
  • Holley Riva ’23 gave the Purple & Gold another goal exactly one minute after Goleniaks, beating the NEC goaltender for her first goal of the season. This one was set up by Lenzen and McCarrick and gave EC a 5-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
  • Morton got a goal 1:10 into the third period, her first of the campaign, assisted by Lenzen along with Riva.
  • Elmira got its seventh and final goal 19:16 into the third period through a Boyle goal, assisted by Claire Meeder ’23 for her second point of the match and first goal of the season.
  • Chloe Beaubien ’23 started in goal for the Soaring Eagles, playing 60 minutes. The goaltender saved eight shots while allowing one goal.

The Soaring Eagles play again on Saturday, November 4, at 4:00 p.m. when they face off against #13 Norwich University on the road.
