Kuehberger and Meeder Notch Personal Milestones as Soaring Eagles Blank Herons 3-0

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s hockey program opened the weekend on the road with a matchup on the banks of Seneca Lake against William Smith College as the Soaring Eagles notched a 3-0 shutout against the Herons.

The contest marked the 100th career game skated for Claire Meeder ’23, while Elmira goalkeeper Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 set the program’s all-time record with the 23rd shutout of her career, passing Allison Cubberley ’09 and Lauren Sullivan ’13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • It would be Piper Andrews ’26 who opened the scoring in the contest for the Soaring Eagles. Andrews found the back of the net at the 13:17 mark of the opening frame after taking a pass from Sophie Gregory ’26 to make it 1-0.
  • In the second period, Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 added to the Purple & Gold’s advantage with a tally at the 5:14 mark to make it 2-0. Andrews along with Payton Nicksic ’26 would be credited with the assists on Shvartsman’s goal.
  • Elmira would add a second goal in the frame as Erika Goleniak ’25 netted her team-leading 10th goal of the season to make it 3-0. The goal would be set up by Claire Meeder ’23, who recorded her ninth assist of the season for EC.
  • The Soaring Eagles finished the contest 0-for-1 in the contest on the power play, while William Smith went 0-for-2 with the extra skater. EC also finished with a 38 to 16 advantage in shots on goal as Kuehberger stopped all 16 shots for the Purple & Gold.

 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles host the Herons on Saturday beginning at 4:00 P.M. as the two sides wrap up their home-and-home series at the Murray Athletic Center.
