It’s time for Brad Treliving to get to work: Leafs Morning Take

by

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final did not disappoint.

What a hockey game; what a series.

The Florida Panthers are the 2024 Stanley Cup champions.

And that’s where the conversation started on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Not for anything but this year’s final only cemented the fact that the fourth win is the hardest to get. In fact, the Panthers needed four cracks to get the job done. Furthermore, for the third time in the past three seasons, there will be a Stanley Cup parade happening in the state of Florida. There must be something in the water, right? For what it’s worth, people need to stop slagging on Connor McDavid for not going up to accept his Conn Smythe Trophy. The personal honour is nice, but at the end of the day, all most players care about is hoisting Lord Stanley.

Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we dove into the latest gossip around the NHL. Firstly, prior to Game 7, Boston dealt Linus Ullmark, who guested on this show last week, to Ottawa. That should help their crease substantially. Unfortunately, last year’s Vezina Trophy winner had no interest in playing in Toronto, so those conversations died quickly. The search to find an Ilya Samsonov replacement continues for Brad Treliving and company. Meantime, according to a few different reports, it appears that Brett Pesce is likely to sign with his hometown New Jersey Devils. Yes, the news stinks, but thankfully, there will be other options available. At the very least, you know the Leafs have been around this. Pesce would make a lot of sense, but unfortunately, it looks like Toronto will have to go a different direction.

Also, not that it needs much addressing, but that Mitch Marner to Utah rumour is completely bogus. Oh yes, crazy season is officially here. Speaking of which, it sounds like that Joseph Woll extension will go down. Of course, he can’t officially sign the new contract until Monday.

As we’ve been promoting for a week now, we’ll be doing a show from Stadium Swim in Vegas from Wednesday to Friday. Be sure to join Anthony Stewart and me from Sin City for the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Special start time for these shows: 2 PM ET/ 11 AM PT.
