Coachella Valley Firebirds Sign Former Second-Round Pick To AHL Contract

by admin

The Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, have signed former second-round pick Cam Morrison to an AHL contract.

Morrison was drafted 40th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 NHL draft but has yet to make his NHL debut. He played four years at the University of Notre Dame after the Avalanche selected him and joined the Rockford IceHogs after his NCAA career finished.

The 25-year-old spent the 2023-24 season with the Charlotte Checkers, the Florida Panthers AHL affiliate. In 45 games, he scored five goals and 11 points. His AHL production hasn’t lived up to his NCAA production, where he scored 44 goals and 95 points in 149 games.

His points-per-game in the AHL is 0.33 compared to 0.64 in the NCAA.

Listed at 6’3, 209 lbs, the left-handed winger has the size to provide value to the Firebirds roster. He plays a defensively sound game with strong speed. If Morrison can show a bit more offensively and find consistency, he can be an effective bottom-six player for the Firebirds.
