MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Nikita Alexandrov has been waiting in the wings to sign a contract.
Having been a restricted free agent throughout the summer, the second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft wound up being the last to sign when he put pen to paper on Monday to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay the 24-year-old $775,000 NHL, $150,000 AHL.
The Blues had to wait to make room on the 50-man roster to get Alexandrov into the fold and once they assigned junior players to their respective clubs to free up a roster spot while Alexandrov was skating with the club during training camp.

Alexandrov played in 23 games with the Blues last season and had just two assists and had seven points (three goals, four assists) with the Thunderbirds in seven games last season.
* Blues assign four to Springfield — The Blues reduced their training camp roster down to 32 by assigning forwards Mackenzie MacEachern, Hugh McGing and Mathias Laferriere and defenseman Hunter Skinner down to Springfield after the quartet cleared waivers on Monday afternoon.
For the first time since camp opened Sept. 19, the Blues were down to one practice group.
“We’ve had one skate with the big group and now it’s nice to get down to having to make a few decisions still here left. Having one skate and getting lines together, getting d-pairs together and start to work on our game and having really dialed in habits and details that we’re looking for, that was nice to get to work here today.”
Simon Robertsson (upper-body injury) has returned to skating again and Adam Jiricek (knee) are still in St. Louis but will eventually be assigned to Springfield and Brantford of the Ontario Hockey League, respectively, once their rehab assignments are complete.
