by admin

The San Jose Sharks started the game well but ultimately fell to the New York Rangers 3-2 on Thursday.

The Rangers scored three goals in the second period, scored by Mika Zibanejad, Jimmy Vesey, and Vincent Trocheck. Igor Shesterkin made 24 saves. Filip Chytil left the game after the second period.

The Sharks got a goal from Timothy Liljegren, his first since being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Fabian Zetterlund also scored for the Sharks. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 32 shots. Nico Sturm left the game after the second period with an upper-body injury.

The Sharks outshot the Rangers 9-7 after the first period but finished the game outshot 35-26.

Liljegren throws a puck toward the net, and after it is deflected up in the air, it somehow gets past Shesterkin for his first goal as a member of the Sharks.

Zibanejad put the puck into an empty net and tied the game at one. It was Zibanejad’s third goal of the season.

Vesey collected a loose puck in front of the net and scored on the backhand to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Adam Fox thought he had scored the Rangers’ third goal in 2:50, but the Sharks challenged for goalie interference and won.

Artemi Panarin found Trocheck on the right side with a terrific pass, and now the Rangers take a 3-1 lead.

Between the second and third periods, the Sharks announced Nico Sturm would not return with an upper-body injury.

Zetterlund scored with 26 seconds left to make it 3-2.
