Antigonish, NS – The St. Francis Xavier University X-Men announced Friday the addition of Owen Sound Attack captain Mark Woolley to the men’s hockey program for the 2022-23 season. Woolley joins a group of four other players in committing to the program, including former Kitchener Rangers netminder Lucas Pfeil.
A 6-foot-3, 226 pound defenceman from St. Thomas, Ont., Woolley captained the Attack this past season. He spent the past three seasons with Owen Sound and two years prior with the Guelph Storm. The OHL Humanitarian of the Year award recipient played in 225 major junior regular season games, with 41 points, and also had a stint in the Slovakia 2 League for 12 games during the shortened 2020-21 pandemic season.
“Mark is a very high character captain in Owen Sound,” says Peddle. “He is a very dependable, a physical shut-down defenceman who is very hard to play against and provides a strong presence on the ice. This season’s OHL coaches poll ranked him first in two categories – best body checker and best shot blocker – which is a great testament to his defensive abilities. Mark is a great team player with outstanding leadership skills and will be a strong addition to our program.”
