The Laval Rocket, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, announced Sunday that they’ve signed North Bay Battalion goaltender Joe Vrbetic to a one-year, two-way AHL contract.

The 6-foot-6, 188Ib. Vrbetic played in 45 games with North Bay in his second full OHL season, going 29-10-3-3 with a 2.87 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and two shutouts. He went 6-1 with a 3.88 goals-against average and .872 save percentage in eight playoff contests as the Battalion reached the Eastern Conference Championship Series.

Selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, Vrbetic would have been an overage candidate for the Troops in 2022-23. The native of Dunvegan, Ont. was North Bay’s second round (31st overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection and played to a 43-35-4-3 mark over two seasons in North Bay.
