Bettor wins $396K, thanks to Rays walk-off HR

One BetMGM customer had a very eventful Tuesday night, thanks to the two teams in action from Tampa Bay.

This bettor put in a massive, six-figure parlay on both the Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning winning in their respective games. While the Rays hosted the St. Louis Cardinals, the Lightning played Game 4 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals.

Both teams were favored (the Rays were -155; the Lightning -175), but parlaying the two together gave the bettor +158 odds.

The total amount bet was a whopping $153,525.39.

One half of the bet was a breeze. The Lightning had a 2-0 lead by the early part of the second period, allowing the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions to cruise to an eventual 4-1 victory to tie the series at 2-2.

Over at Tropicana Field, though, things were a bit dicey — until Taylor Walls came through in a big way.

It was a low-scoring game. The Rays took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cardinals responded with a run of their own in the top of the eighth. The game then went into extra innings and the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th, setting up the heroics from Walls.

Walls entered Tuesday night with just a .151 batting average. He had played only twice in June, but he came through with a walk-off three-run home run off the foul pole in the bottom of the 10th on a 2-2, two-out pitch.

For a regular-season baseball game, it doesn’t get much more dramatic than that.

Walls’ clutch homer, just the fourth of his career, resulted in a monster $396,902.05 payday for that bettor.

Not bad for a Tuesday night.
