Nineteen year-old Barrie Colts defenceman Brandt Clarke saw his first NHL action on Thursday night in Los Angeles, skating in 15:17 for the Kings in a 4-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken. Clarke logged one shot on goal as the eighth overall pick of the 2021 NHL Draft made his much-anticipated debut.
Racking up 59 points (11-48–59) in 55 regular season games with Barrie last season, Clarke was sidelined by injury come playoff time as the Colts made a first round exit against the Mississauga Steelheads. The former fourth overall pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection joined Barrie following a standout showing with the Don Mills Flyers at the 2019 OHL Cup. The Nepean, Ont. native has collected 17 goals, 80 assists and 97 points in 112 career regular season games over two OHL seasons.
Clarke was a Canadian National Under-18 Team gold medalist at the U18 Worlds in 2021, is a former first all-rookie team member in 2020 and was voted to the OHL’s second all-star team in 2021-22.
