The Calgary Flames have recalled forward Matt Coronato from the Calgary Wranglers, the team announced Thursday.
In a corresponding move, the Flames assigned forward Samuel Honzek to the Wranglers.
Drafted by the Flames in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Coronato has split time between both the NHL and AHL this season. In two games with the Wranglers, he has scored two goals. With the Flames, Coronato has two goals in five games.
Since turning pro full time last season, Coronato has seen 40 career NHL regular season games, collecting five goals and 11 points. Prior to making the jump, Coronato played two seasons in the NCAA with Harvard, putting up 72 points in 68 career games.
A 2023 first round pick of the Flames, Honzek impressed Flames management and stuck with the team out of training camp. Although he went pointless in five games, Honzek flashed his size and skill. With the AHL assignment, Honzek will most likely be awarded the opportunity to play big minutes and continue to develop his game.
