The Vancouver Canucks (0-0-1) conclude their mini two-game homestand with a Friday night matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers (0-0-0). The night will be special as fans will have the chance to celebrate defenceman Alex Edler, who signed a one-day contract to retire with the organization. As for the game itself, Vancouver comes into the matchup looking for their first win of the season after falling 6-5 in overtime to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. Last season, the Flyers won both games against the Canucks, outscoring Vancouver 6-1 during the season series.
This game against Philadephia will be a great opportunity for the Canucks to show the season opener was just a fluke. It won’t be easy, though, as the Flyers will have plenty of adrenaline as it will be their first game of the 2024-25 season. With plenty of talk from both the players and Rick Tocchet about being better, fans should expect a stronger effort from Vancouver on Friday night.

Players To Watch:
Quinn Hughes
With the organization celebrating Alex Edler, expect a big game from his former teammate Quinn Hughes. The duo played two full seasons together and were on the roster during the Canucks 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs run. While Hughes can’t pass any of Edler’s franchise records, Vancouver’s captain should continue to get closer as he looks for his second multi-point game of the season.
Matvei Michkov
For the second straight game, Canucks fans will get to see an NHL debut as Matvei Michkov gets welcomed into the NHL. The seventh overall pick from the 2023 NHL Draft is projected to play on the Flyers’ top line and will be dangerous whenever the puck is on his stick. One of the best prospects to come out of Russia in the last two decades, Michkov is going to be hard to stop in his rookie year.
