So much for money on the board. Craig Berube’s new squad was thoroughly embarrassed by his old team on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Naturally, we didn’t waste much time sharing our feelings on the 5-1 loss to the Blues. The Leafs played awful. And that’s how we kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. After we unloaded our initial thoughts/feelings, we did talk about the recently released 4 Nations Face Off tournament jerseys. Spoiler: Mixed reviews on the Canadian tarp.
Courtesy of Square, we spent a whack of time dissecting the ugly loss. Simply put, it just wasn’t good enough. Moving forward, there needs to be more accountability. I thought the big boys were awful against St. Louis. They need to lead by example, and the past two games, they haven’t. There’s only so much Berube can do behind the bench. We’re only eight games into the season, and already, Leafs fans are at wit’s end with what we’ve seen lately. It’s because we’ve seen this song and dance over and over and over again. We’ve all had enough.
Furthermore, we did discuss Joseph Woll’s first outing of the season. He was far from the problem, although he’s had better games. The Missouri native turned aside 22 shots. Personally, I thought he made numerous big stops with Toronto down 2-0. Truthfully, it was tough to analyze his night because the team in front of him was so damn atrocious. Unacceptable stuff.
After that, we previewed a suddenly crucial match-up on Saturday night as the Leafs visit the Bruins for the first time since Game 7 last spring. Both teams have been struggling. Something has to give. We’re really going to see what this Leafs team is made of.
Meantime, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, we were fortunate enough to catch up with Arkells front man Max Kerman once again. In addition to discussing the Big Feelings Tour, we touched on Max’s Maple Leafs fandom. As per usual, he was a lot of fun. By the way, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to a date of your choice on the tour. To be eligible to win, all you need to do is be following TheLeafsNation on social media (@TLNDC) & on YouTube (@theleafsnation401). Additionally, send us your favourite Arkells song + your favourite all-time Leafs player. And we’ll pick a winner. It’s as simple as that.
That will do it for this week. Join us on Monday at 11 AM ET as we recap Leafs/Bruins. Also, we’ll preview Monday night’s tilt in Winnipeg as for the second straight week, the Leafs will be featured on Prime Monday Night Hockey.
