Craig Simpson speculates that the Leafs will likely have to move a contract soon: Leafs Morning Take

It’s back to practice for the Maple Leafs as they prepare for a stiff test against the New York Rangers on Saturday night.

We kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take by congratulating Luke Schenn on his 1000th game. Unfortunately, though, Nashville’s off to a very tough start. They’re 0-4-0. Steven Stamkos has zero points. In addition to that, we touched on Nick Kypreos’ story from the Toronto Star that suggested that the Leafs are reportedly already interested in extending Steven Lorentz. Too soon? We discussed.

Brought to you by Prime Video, we dissected some notes from practice. Firstly, Joseph Woll took part in his first full team skate in over a week. You would think that they’re going to be overly cautious, but it’s a good start. It sounds like he’s inching closer to a possible return. Also, Fraser Minten is back skating as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain sustained in the rookie tournament prior to training camp. Big picture, I wonder if he factors into the big squad later on this season.

Then, courtesy of Square, Craig Simpson of Sportsnet/Hockey Night in Canada dropped by the show. We talked about the new additions, Craig Berube’s impact, and the measuring stick game against the Rangers.

After that, we talked a bit more about Saturday night’s game. The Rangers have potted 21 goals in four games, the Leafs have surrendered six goals over their first four outings. Also, will Matt Rempe dress? I would love to see another scrap between Reaves and Rempe. The goalie matchup should be good, too: Anthony Stolarz vs. Igor Shesterkin. For what it’s worth, judging by the pairings on Friday, it looks like Conor Timmins will come back in the lineup and Timothy Liljegren projects to be a health scratch again.

We’ll be back on Monday at 11 AM ET to recap Toronto/New York. Plus, we’ll look ahead to the Prime Monday Night game as the Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning to finish off their four game homestand.
