NORTH BAY, Ont. — Centre Dylan Richter has signed a standard player’s agreement, including an education package, with the North Bay Battalion, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Thursday.

North Bay chose Richter, a left shot who stands five-foot-eight and weighs 174 pounds, in the fifth round of the OHL Priority Selection last April from the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs U16s. He turned 16 on July 11.

The Parkhill, Ont., resident has scored 18 goals and earned 16 assists for 34 points in 33 games this season with the junior B Strathroy Rockets of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

“Dylan has had a great start to his junior career and already is a go-to guy on his team,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis. “He has a combination of speed, skill and grit that we feel will give him success over the next few years with our club.”

The Battalion now has signed its top six picks in 2022, including forwards Ethan Procyszyn and Jacob Therrien, defencemen Brayden Turley and Tyson Rismond and goaltender Mike McIvor. All have seen OHL action this season.

Dennis said that Richter may get game time with the Troops before the end of the schedule.

The Battalion, with a won-lost-extended record of 23-9-1 for 47 points, first in the Central Division, visits the Sudbury Wolves at 7:05 p.m. Friday before playing host to the Oshawa Generals at 1 p.m. Saturday in the traditional New Year’s Eve game.
